St. Louis International Senior Center

Independent Together - Strong Senior Communities

The St. Louis International Senior Center – formerly Macklind International Senior Center – recently celebrated its 10th year of operation in 2023 after being founded with the support of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging. The Center brings together isolated foreign-born seniors in peer groups for culturally tailored, fresh-cooked meals, transportation, language support, and educational services. The Center emphasizes social engagement and health education, ensuring seniors enjoy a fulfilling, well-supported community life.

Weekly recurring senior groups are established at the Center based on interest and by language community. While the Center has hosted a number of additional groups over the years (including Russian, Spanish, Dari/Farsi, Arabic, and Bosnian), this is the current rotation of groups making the Senior Center their own:

  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Albanian
  • Swahili
  • Vietnamese

Seniors enjoy socialization, quarterly outings, and accessible education on health, medical care, and social services. By pairing each group with a same-language, same-culture group leader that doubles as a case worker, seniors can also receive social services and/or benefits assistance from staff on-site.

Our Social Services Department oversees the Center, as well as providing licensed insurance counseling (Medicare, ACA, and other options), assistance with benefits, and our long-running citizenship program for foreign-born seniors in Missouri:  St. Louis International Senior Center and our long-running citizenship program for older, foreign-born Missourians – Naturalization Services to Elderly Legal Immigrants and Elderly Refugees.
